When to compress
PNG — lossless images with transparency: screenshots, logos, diagrams. When a photo is too heavy for a website, email or upload form. The format stays the same; the file gets lighter.
What changes in the file
Compression removes detail that is barely visible on screen. If the compressed version is not smaller than the original, you get the original.
Which settings to pick
Quality 80–85 is the sweet spot: above it the file grows with no visible gain. For websites and email, scale to 1920 on the longest side.
