Common questions

How long are files kept?

The source file is deleted right after conversion; the result is kept for the time shown on its card. The exception is cutting clips: the video is kept as long as the clips, so you can cut it again without uploading it twice. Removing a file from the list with the bin button deletes it at once.

Who can download my file?

Only whoever uploaded it: the download link is issued to that browser and expires quickly. Files are not published, not indexed by search engines and not used to train AI models.

What is the maximum file size?

The limits on size, length and files per day are shown on the home page under the upload area. With an account they are higher, and finished files are there on any device once you sign in.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Drop several files together and pick a format and settings for each. A few files convert at the same time; the rest wait in a queue.

How do I convert a file from a link?

Press Paste link, or just paste the address into the window with Ctrl+V. The file must open without signing in, and the address must end with an extension such as .mp4. Links to YouTube or social media pages will not work: those are pages, not files.

Why is the result bigger than the original?

That happens when converting to a lossless format (WAV, FLAC, PNG, TIFF) or to an old one such as AVI or WMV. Quality does not improve: what earlier compression threw away is gone. For a smaller file choose Smaller file or a lower resolution.

Are subtitles and extra audio tracks kept?

No. One video and one audio track are carried over, usually the first ones. Subtitles, chapters and extra dubs are not kept yet.

Why does the PDF use a different font?

A font the server does not have is replaced with one of the same width, so lines and pages stay in place. To keep the exact font, save the PDF from Word itself or embed the fonts in the document.

What happens to photo metadata?

EXIF is removed by default: camera model, capture date, location. The orientation is applied to the image itself. To keep metadata, turn its removal off under More settings.

Do I need to install anything?

No, it all works in the browser on a computer or a phone. The conversion runs on our servers, so it does not drain the battery and does not depend on how fast the device is.

If a conversion failed

The extension doesn't match the contents

The file was renamed, for example a WebM given a .mp4 extension. The file properties or a media player show the real format. Pick a file with the right extension or rename it back.

The file is damaged or unreadable

The file was not fully downloaded or written, or it is DRM-protected, like films from streaming services and music from streaming apps. Check that it plays in a media player.

The file has no audio track

A video without sound has nothing to extract. Screen recordings made with audio off are the usual case.

The file is longer than the limit

Trim the part you need under Trim: the limit then applies only to that part.

The resolution is too high

Very large images and video above 8K take too long to process. Reduce the resolution before uploading or split a panorama into parts.

The conversion took too long

This usually happens with long videos in H.265 or VP9. Try Smaller file or a lower resolution: they encode faster.

The link couldn't be downloaded

The site requires signing in, returns a page instead of the file, or limits downloads. Download the file yourself and upload it the usual way.

The link points into an internal network

Addresses such as localhost, 192.168.x.x and internal services are closed, so nobody can use the converter to reach someone else’s network.

The video does not fit the chosen size

The longer the video, the more room it needs even under heavy compression. Pick a larger size or trim the video: the rest then gets more bitrate.

Today's limit is used up

The limit covers the last 24 hours: each conversion stops counting a day after it was made. Besides the personal limit there is a shared one per network, so in an office or a dorm it can run out sooner.
