Why convert
Recorder files and exports from audio editors weigh hundreds of megabytes. As MP3 the same sound takes five to ten times less space and goes through any messenger.
What changes in the file
MP3 compression is lossy. At 256–320 kbit/s it is barely audible; at 128 kbit/s music can lose its top end.
Which settings to pick
Use 320 kbit/s for music and 128 for lectures and interviews. Speech can go mono under More settings, halving the file.
