Why convert
AVI — an old Windows format, found in camera footage and films from the 2000s. When you only need the sound from AVI: music, a lecture or a podcast to listen to without a screen. AIFF — Apple's uncompressed audio, the Mac counterpart of WAV.
What changes in the file
The picture is dropped and the first audio track is kept. Quality will not improve: what AVI compression threw away is gone; the file just gets bigger.
