Why convert
AVI — an old Windows format, found in camera footage and films from the 2000s. When you only need the sound from AVI: music, a lecture or a podcast to listen to without a screen. Opus — the voice-message format of Telegram and WhatsApp; good even at low bitrates.
What changes in the file
The picture is dropped and the first audio track is kept. The sound is encoded once more, so keep the bitrate at least as high as the original.
Which settings to pick
Use 128–192 kbit/s for music; 64 is enough for speech.
